The department is a basic structural unit of the Faculty of Professional Military Education “Leadership Training” of the Zhytomyr Military Institute named after S. P. Korolyov and conducts educational, methodological, and scientific activities in such basic disciplines as “Small Arms and Firearms Training” and “Firearms Training.”

The department trains cadets and students at the initial (short cycle), first, and second levels of higher education, as well as enlisted personnel, sergeants, and officers in professional military education, retraining, and advanced training courses.

The main task of the department is to ensure high-quality training for cadets and students studying at the military institute. Implementation of the best international experience in ensuring the quality of education, taking into account the requirements of customers for the training of military specialists, as well as the experience of repelling full-scale aggression by the Russian Federation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine; active introduction into the educational process of programs and methods for training military specialists in the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance with the aim of transitioning to NATO standards.

The ultimate goal of training is for those being trained to acquire the knowledge, practical skills, and abilities sufficient to perform their duties in primary officer positions in combat conditions. 

The composition and structure of the department's educational and material base meets the requirements for training cadets and students and ensures the organization and conduct of all types of classes in the relevant disciplines in accordance with the content of the training programs.
